This past fall our team gathered again at HQ in Rocky Mount, NC to prepare for the upcoming Virtual Trade Show season. We spent a few days together preparing new tools for both end users and our distribution and dealer networks to gain a deeper understanding and training into our solutions.

Since the genesis and subsequent success of Worm Power Turf many have attempted to copy the success. It’s time to weed out the empty and unproven claims and cut right to the facts.

Worm Power Turf has been awarded peer-reviewed research grants from State and Federal Agricultural Agencies. In 2015 Cornell University’s Institute of Biotechnology completed research examining the microbial makeup of Worm Power Turf.

Worm Power Turf: Digging Deep

Through rRNA Gene Sequencing, Cornell identified at the species level over 1400 different micoorgansim in Worm Power Turf.

In 2016, NC State University completed research to determine the effects of Worm Power on turfgrass health and rooting; and analysis of the microbial content in Worm Power. The conclusion of this research found two things:

• In the two health studies it was very interesting that the Worm Power treatments showed significantly higher NDVI readings, especially in the creeping bentgrass study.
• The plating experiment demonstrates that WormPower has enough microbial material in it to have an effect in turfgrass systems.

Rhizophagy Cycle: How microorganisms enhance plant nutrient uptake

In a recent golf course industry survey, turf managers were asked to rank what they feel is most important when considering trying a new product. Below are the results ranked as 1 least influential to 5 most influential.

Enhancing nutrient uptake has been one of the benefits of using Worm Power Turf. Now a team lead by James White Jr out of Rutgers University, Department of Plant Biology has shown exactly how this is occurring through the Rhizophagy cycle.

Below is a brief animation on the Rhizophagy cycle.

The rhizophagy cycle appears to occur in all plants and may be an important way plants acquire some nutrients. The discovery that plants actively cultivate and then extract nutrients from symbiotic microbes is new. The 50 or so species of plants examined so far show evidence that they engage in rhizophagy. Some of the microbes involved in the rhizophagy cycle increase growth of their particular host plants, but inhibit growth of other species of plants. – lead author James F. White Jr., a professor in the Department of Plant Biology at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
